Executive Team

While less directly involved in the day-to-day publishing through OJS and emailing, the Executive Team is nonetheless most responsible for what UBC PSSJ publishes every issue, and responsible for ensuring that the publication process goes smoothly.  Execs are involved in every aspect of the journal process, from publishing to support to future strategy and issue planning.  The job is challenging, but it is rewarding in the long term.

Chief Editor:(Positions Available: 2)

The Chief Editor(s) and Associate Editor(s) are a part of the Editorial Board and most responsible for the content that goes into UBC PSSJ.  The position is challenging, but rewarding as the CEs are responsible for networking, obtaining funding, soliciting articles and strategizing to plan out the next couple issues of PSSJ ahead of the one that is currently in press.  They also train the Associate Editor(s) (AEs) to take their place the following year.  The Chief Editors are responsible for reading every word that is to be published in PSSJ, and along with the AEs they form the initial article review committee which decides if an article is to be accepted, accepted after major revisions, or rejected.  They write Letters from the Editors every issue and liaise with the faculty/sponsors of the journal to expand PSSJ and enhance its readership.  They envision new workshops and tools to educate the student body on research, and along with the AEs they put together these events and coordinate the Support and Editorial teams to see them through.

Candidate Assets: Vision to advance the journal, inter-personal skills, self and team organizational skills, editorial/publishing skills helpful, writing skills helpful.

What You Will Gain: Contacts both within and without the faculty as part of PSSJ’s daily running; time management and organisational skills; editorial skills; experience with unique software formats such as OJS and WordPress; the chance to head an operation that educates students and practitioners on the value of student writing.

Commitment:Approximately 10h per week

Term: 2 years (1 year as AE, 1 year as CE)

Associate Editor:(Positions Available:2)

The purpose of the position of Associate Editor is to assist the Chief Editor in the high-level overall management of the journal’s editorial and peer review process.  Each AE is responsible for half of the articles received each issue and is available to answer any questions from the rest of the team, coordinating with the Section Editors and tracking the progress of each article.  The AEs coordinate the logistics of meetings, review workshops and PSSJ Launch events, and participate in PR Work in concert with the CEs.  They play a significant role in advancing the journal long-term and in finding/networking with authors and other professionals to advance the journal’s standing and readership.  After the completion of their one-year term, the AE will then take on the position of Chief Editor.
